Eastern Shore Wing War & DC Explorations (Super-Late Photo Update)

Back in May, I competed in three back-to-back weekends. Naturally, I fell behind in updates… Despite being thrown on the social media back burner, each event was awesome and memorable in its own way, so here are some pics.

Kicking off the month was the Eastern Shore Wing War at Pork in the Park in Salisbury, Maryland (Sunday, May 11, 2014).

Pre-Contest, L-R: Shell Lesco, Kyle Hanner, Miki Sudo, Steve Hendry

Crazy? Maybe.

Awesome? Definitely.

Off to West Palm Beach

I took a red eye to Florida and arrived around 8 Am. Shell Lesco and I killed time by soaking and sunning on the beautiful shores of West Palm Beach.

About to Go Live (L-R: Chestnut, Sudo)

Huge thanks to the OOB Crew for their hospitality. See you next year!!…

Veggie Weekend (pt. 1) ! Fri. and Sat. in California.

Eat Your Veggies, Children.

In a typical 10-minute contest, we probably consume more ribs, wings, hot dogs (and whole bunch of stuff contrary to a disciplined diet) than the average American does in the entire year.

Thankfully, Major League Eating hosts the Stockton Deep-Fried Asparagus Eating Championship and the West Palm Beach Sweet Corn Eating Contest. Back-to-back, like, within 26 hours of each other. Obviously, I did both because… how do you turn that down?

Here’s how my trip started:

My awesome buddy (of 10 years!) hooked me up with a sweet room at Le Meridien.

15 hours to contest time: Dinner at Akiko

Normally, I wouldn’t eat this close to a contest, but there’s no way I was taking 1st or 2nd, and I’m still figuring out a way to turn down fresh fish. In all fairness, I was mostly eating sashimi . The pieces on the left are mine.

28 courses and way too much sake later, I retired to my room. Life is rough.

Contest Day: Good Morning, SF!

I woke up around 5am, and couldn’t get back to sleep.

It’s Go Time!

Stockton was unusually cold this year! Amazing contest, nonetheless.

I actually stopped somewhere in the 8th minute to watch Joey Chestnut and Matt Stonie demolish the world record. I knew they’d be out for blood, but it was crazy to see them best it by over 3 lbs. each. They’re def ranked 1st and 2nd for a reason
